As part of ISHARA Literacy Development project, Ishara has launched its Literacy Development centre in Delhi. English classes are being offered to Deaf students with little or no knowledge in English to enable them to be prepared for competitive exams, Government jobs, higher studies, public and private sector jobs. Our teachers are deaf themselves and we use a variety of educational technologies that includes video based visual materials to teach English. Deaf adults with good signing and sign reception skill are encouraged to join the course. However, students with average sign reception skills are also encouraged to attend the class since daily socialization with deaf teachers and students will help improve their communication skills.

For the basic level English course a fee of Rs. 300/- per month is being charged. However 25% of students get free education. Students from economically backward family may apply for tuition waivers.

All our students are deaf and the classes are interactive. Our classes are not merely designed to teach English but also for students to learn the optimum way to function in the larger community.
